FCA 2017 Competition 3th place December 2016 Location: the Zócalo, Mexico City The World Fair (Feria de las Culturas Amigas) is a temporary exposition that gathers more than 90 countries around the world to celebrate the cultural diversity of each nation. The fair takes place every year at the Zócalo Square in Mexico City, the most important square of the city. The exposition lasts two weeks. The construction has to be done in 5 days and the uninstall in 3 days. Due to its ephemeral nature and its high degree of efficiency during construction, we decided to work with a modular system and tried to standardize everything as much as possible to be able to keep precision and control of the construction. The project tries to keep the open space of the square intact by distributing the program to the edges, creating porches on the perimeter that embrace the square, but are permeable enough to allow the flow of people in and out of the square at any point. The structure of the project is made with a standard scaffold system that generates the porches and defines the stands of each country. The roof and the partition walls between the stands are made of tarps. A semi-translucent membrane protects the circulation and the stands against the sun and rain.
